Jacksonville, FL – Project One Health JAX, an initiative of the Winston Family Foundation, today announced the launch of a new community-wide, 30-day challenge called Less Screen. More Green. The challenge invites families across Jacksonville to reduce daily screen time and spend more time outdoors, reconnecting with nature and with one another.

Today’s youth are facing a growing health crisis fueled by loneliness, isolation, and the overuse of digital devices. Research links excessive screen time and social media consumption to rising rates of anxiety, depression, and disconnection among children and teens.

“We created the Less Screen. More Green. Challenge to counter these trends by encouraging families to step away from their devices, spend time outside, and rebuild their connections with nature and with one another, which is essential for youth to thrive,” said Sylia Obagi, CEO of the Winston Family Foundation who is spearheading Project One Health JAX. “This challenge gives families an easy, structured way to bring balance into their lives while building healthier screen-time habits together.”

Less Screen. More Green. invites families to commit to four daily practices for 30 days:

  1. Pay attention to how much time you spend on screens and work to reduce screen time a little more each week.
  2. Go outside with family or friends for at least 30 minutes every day without a phone, tablet, or TV.
  3. Take time to notice the world around you and explore nature in your neighborhood, such as birds singing or plants growing in the cracks of the sidewalk.
  4. Connect face-to-face with the people around you and be fully present, without digital distractions.

Project One Health JAX invites families to join the challenge by signing the Less Screen. More Green. Pledge at projectonehealth.org/challenge. Everyone who signs the pledge will receive a link to download a free guide with 30 days of fun outdoor activities families can do together. As a bonus, each participant will also receive a Digital Wellness Toolkit with practical tips and resources for reducing screen time.

To successfully complete the challenge, participants follow the 4 daily practices for 30 days and then fill out a short survey reflecting on their experience. Everyone who does so will be entered to win a prize.

Importantly, Project One Health JAX emphasizes that perfection is not the goal. If participants miss a day, they’re encouraged to get back on track the next day.

Take the pledge today at projectonehealth.org/challenge and join families across Jacksonville in trading screen time for green time.
