Connecting Kids to Nature Along the Neuse

Project One Health NC is dedicated to addressing the growing disconnect between young people and nature in North Carolina by engaging children in outdoor experiences along the Neuse River. We aim to improve their physical and mental well-being while nurturing a deeper connection to the environment and healthier ecosystems.

Place-based Learning

At Project One Health NC, we believe in the power of place-based learning. Our programs are designed around the natural environment of the Neuse River and its surrounding trails, where children and their families can engage directly with local ecosystems. By learning through experience, children develop a lasting bond with nature, helping them grow into healthier, more environmentally-conscious adults.

Our vision is to create a network of model facilities along the Neuse River, starting with sites in Raleigh and Johnston County. These locations will serve as hubs for community-driven initiatives, combining nature-based learning, local food systems, and conservation efforts.

Our Partners

Project One Health is rooted in a growing body of research on the long-term impacts of technology and social media use on the well-being of young people. Winston Family Foundation has made significant investments to advance this important area of study through the Winston National Center on Technology Use, Brain and Psychological Development at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
